Being the sole contestant from the island of Bermuda has left Tucker Murphy with just a hint of regret as he stated earlier that he would have liked to have been joined by his fellow countryman Patrick. Tucker Murphy, who will be the only athlete showing up from Bermuda to contest in the winter Olympics being held in Vancouver as of today , has been given the honor of carrying his nations flag during the opening ceremony which was held yesterday.
Tucker Murphy was left alone to compete in the massive event which will last sixteen days when his partner Patrick failed to qualify. Tucker Murphy who is twenty-eight years old will be participating in the cross country skiing event which will take place over a stretch of fifteen kilometers.
Tucker Murphy is confident that his results for the event will see a massive improvement from last years results because he is in a better physical condition. Murphy, who is a student at the Oxford University, has recently achieved his best performance while contesting in the Spanish National Championship. The championship which was held in Spain last year awarded Murphy and overall position of eleventh.
The winter Olympics, being the massive event that they are, have induced a bit of nervousness in Murphy but he says that whatever may happen he will stay within himself. The added burden comes with him being the first Bermudan ever to compete in this fifteen kilometer cross country event. I just hope that he maintains his cool on the course even while knowing that the entire population of Bermuda have pinned their hopes on him.
