TUFTS 10k, the women running all around the course in Boston, not behind the men but to improve and for the betterment of their health, Tufts 10k is a race event for women, motto for this race is to improve the quality of health for women. The race countdown has been started and around 100 days left in the ladies race for the fitness.
The event was started way back in 1977 with the name of Bonne Bell Mini Marathon. It was one out of 12 races for ladies which were held all around the country. In the very first race, the management had anticipated that only 200 women would participate but they were literally surprised when they witnessed the number of women participating in the race crossed over 2000. It started and finished on the course at Hyatt Regency in Cambridge.
The first ever winner of the race was Lynn Jennings, a senior high school student. She won the series of races in 1977, 1989 and 1990 to 1993. She also remained 2nd for five times.
Later in 1978, the race shifted to Boston. Keeping in view the marvelous views of Charles River and Boston city skyline, the course was also designed as smooth and fast. The professional runners also achieved four American runners’ records on the same course. The race kept on growing and gained its fame in 1983; over 9000 women ran the race that year.
TUFTS health Plan was involved as a sponsor in 1985 managed and planed to attach the racers with the health and fitness and they start promoting the race with the marking tools using health and fitness for women.
TUFTS 10k gained its maximum popularity in recent time and women started to participate in a larger numbers, it has been a long time since the commencement of this race but almost 18 women in this race are those who are participating in this race from the beginning and never have missed a single event.
