Social networking site twitter has been hacked by a group of Iranian hackers. As users tried to open twitter pages they were greeted by a black page with Iranian Cyber Army written at the top of it between two red stars. The users were informed that the site they are trying to open has been compromised. Hacker’s Gmail address appeared below the message. A green colored flag appeared in the centre of the page with a message written in Arabic that Hezbollah would be the winner. There are no confirmed reports about the exact whereabouts of the hackers or if they have any connection with Hezbollah. Rumors are even naming Chinese hackers or Iranian Government itself behind the attack. The message below the flag said that if U.S.A has the misconception that it is controlling the World Wide Web, the hacker’s activity has proved it wrong and that America should refrain from provoking Iranians by imposing more economic sanctions.
It is evident that the group of hackers calling themselves Iranian Cyber Army has hacked some other sites also besides twitter.
The twitter is back on line, however the security vulnerabilities in twitter has made many to question the safety policy of the social networking site. This is not the first time twitter has faced difficulties from hackers. Apparently the site’s safety has been compromised a number of times before. Twitter engineers have said that they are looking into the full details of the incident. Hacked twitter even appeared on Google also, which was removed later on.
