The USS navy commissioned the USS Salem in 1949.The war ship went through many cruises in the Mediterranean and Atlantic. This war ship USS Salem has the privilege and honor to serve many eminent personalities, such as queens and kings of different countries, secretary of navy Thomas S. Gate and US ambassadors to other countries. Although it never took part in any war but this war ship USS Salem did became the sign of peace during the painful times of cold war. The role of the ship was more diplomatic rather than aggressive. When USS Salem was decommissioned in 1959, the Eisenhower was the president of US at that time.
In 1994, the ship revisited her birthplace Quincy, the place that is her permanent abode and people can visit to see her at the naval museum. In 1995, the ship gained a new life and was re-commissioned for Naval Ships Association.
USS Salem has a new agenda to work on, it is being used for educating people about the glorious endeavors that navy undertook. Some people are of the firm belief that the ship is haunted and there are some proofs of the paranormal activities there.
