Varrio Hawaiian Gardens a Latin street gang was named by Federal authorities as the hand behind all criminal acts in the city mostly against African American of the area, including the killing of a Deputy Sheriff. Almost 150 gang members of Varrio Hawaiian Gardens and acquaintances have been charged with shooting of African American and other crimes yesterday on Thursday 21st May, 2009.
Thom Mrozek U.S. Attorney Office spokesman said that a series of arrests were made by Federal agents in association with local agencies against the “Varrio Hawaiian Gardens” gang members and acquaintances.
Population of Hawaiian Gardens, California is only 15,000 but it has very serious issues regarding gangs and “Varrio Hawaiian Gardens” are one of the most dominating Latin gangs of the area. It is anticipated that approximately 4% of the population that lives in Hawaiian Gardens are a member of a gang. The “Varrio Hawaiian Gardens” gang is operated by Mexican Mafia. This gang has a strong and organized crime knot with in the area and outside of the California.
