Proctor & Gamble has announced that it is recalling the bottles of nasal spray with the brand name Vicks Sinex as the bottles were found to be contaminated with bacteria.
The batch of the Vicks Sinex manufactured in the German plant of the company is found to have bacteria in it.
The particular strain of the germs found is not clear. The batch has been distributed in the Germany, U.K and U.S.A.
The company made it clear that the bacteria found in the bottles of Vicks Sinex do not pose a serious threat to normal healthy consumers. However immune-compromised patients or the patients who are taking drugs to safeguard against the rejection of transplanted organ would have the danger of developing serious infection due to the bacteria and hence the company has decided to recall the Sinex nasal spray bottles.
The company officials announced that the recall is totally voluntary and there have been no reports of people getting the infection due to the spray.
Proctor & Gamble said that the bacteria were detected as the bottles were checked for quality control. They have assured people that only one batch has been found to be contaminated.
The lot numbers affected are as follows:
“Vick Sinex U.S.A – Lot No. 9239028831
Vick Sinex U.K – Lot No. 9224028832
Vick Sinex Germany – Lot No 9224028833.”
The company has offered full refund or the replacement if a consumer has the Vicks Sinex with above lot numbers.
Vicks Sinex is used to open the stuffy nose due to influenza.
