Watching the Vokoun injury video, I kept on thinking, it was not game it was just sheer insanity. The game was between Florida Panthers and Atlanta Thrashers. The position was one goal each. Thrashers hit a straight into the goal, Vokoun obstructed the disc and it rebounded. In his effort Vokoun fell on the ground to the left side of the goal post. This gave Thrashers the opportunity they were looking for. They hit the disc in to the goal from behind the goalie (Vokoun). Keith Ballard was standing near the left side of the goal post and as the disc hit the goal, he swung his hockey hitting Vokoun on his left temple near the ear. As if this was not enough to show Ballards hitting powers, he swung his hockey again to hit the goal post. Vokoun was seen going down holding his head and lifting his helmet up. Minutes later a stretcher was brought into the field and he was taken away to the hospital.
Amazing thing is that Ballard kept on playing in the field, when everyone was expecting that he would be sitting outside for his insanity. There is no update yet on Vokoun’s condition, however I remain optimistic as when he was carried away from the field he was still conscious and remained conscious en route to hospital.
Scott Clemmensen served as a goalie for Panthers in the absence of Vokoun
Update : In an update just received Thomas Vokoun is back with the team and would be playing the next game.
