Wal-Mart, the leading grocery chain store in America, has announced another deal for its customers. The store is now offering a no-contract cell phone for sale. The retail giant offered a $45 plan for no-contract service and a metered plan for $30. The offer comes with a condition, however. When there is no contract, the customer is obliged to buy only that cell phone set which is eligible. The eligible cell phones include flip phone LG 220, LG 290 slide phone, and Samsung 451 which features a QWERTY keyboard.
The Wal-Mart offers have been called economical choices for cell phones especially for families. Many other retail stores have also made such offers in past but each came with post-paid service offers. Wal-Mart is just not a simple grocery store; it has become a trademark now. When retailers like Wal-Mart makes an offer, people do put trust in their services and it is this trust which takes their sales to a higher level than the sales levels of ordinary stores.
Considering the prices and the ‘no-contract’ offers, one realizes that Wal-Mart’s offers are cheaper than what are being offered by companies like AT&T. AT&T offers cell phones at cheaper prices than their market price but the offer often comes with certain conditions plus a contract. These conditions often require commitment with AT&T for a certain period of time while Wal-Mart has put no such conditions.
How does the market receive this offer made by Wal-Mart? One cannot answer the question; however, considering the solid background of Wal-Mart and the fact that it has much more branches in the United States than any wireless company, one can predict a good response from the customers.
