A memorial service was held in the honor of Walter Cronkite on Wednesday (September, 9) at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall in a ceremony with a large attendance and was attended by family, friends, journalists, and dignitaries. Walter Cronkite, the late CBS anchor for evening news, died on July 17 at the age of 92. The Walter Cronkite Memorial Service was attendant by President Obama, former President Clinton, CBS President Sean McManus, and the notable public figures like Tom Brokaw.
The memorial service celebrated the greatness of the legendary Cronkite by remembering his life events and his work. The attendees shared their experiences and what they learned from the dear departed.
According to Media Decoder, Tom Brokaw talked about the humor of Mr. Cronkite and how he used to remember his wife while Sean McMunas, president CBS News, remembered his work as unique and said that ‘it will be never duplicated’. Tom Brokaw and Katie Couric also remembered how kids loved Walter Cronkite and how a whole generation at CBS News grew up watching him and learned from him.
Former President Bill Clinton was also one of the addressees; he called Cronkite a man with careful devotion to facts. Clinton remembered Cronkite as a kind-hearted man. One of his buddies, Jimmy buffet sang a sailing song in the memory of Walter Cronkite.
Walter Cronkite’s memorial service was concluded by an address from President Obama who said that as citizen he has benefited from Cronkite’s search fro truth.
Walter Cronkite anchored CBS News from 1962 till 1981. It was a period during which events like Vietnam War, The space race, and the assassination of Kennedy were witnessed.
