The female comedian Wanda Sykes addressed the crowd in Las Vegas and announced her gay marriage with another woman. She revealed that she has married to women and there was no legal constraint and flaw in her marriage. The marriage took place on October 25 in California.
She was on a rally in support of gay rights and utilized the right time and event to declare her gay marriage as a gesture to express legitimacy for controversial gay marriages. Despite this blatant act of hers, she had been quite reluctant to make such statements before. She was of the view that she didn’t really need to speak louder but she was certainly living her aspired life. But eventually when proposition 8 was passed , it proved to be a severe blow to gay rights and she was compelled to join the rally and protest in favor of the gay rights as well as reveal her marital status in public.
Sykes has come up as one of the few black women in USA who had declared her lesbian status in public. Although she admits that there is a hell of difference between black civil rights and gay rights but she is of the firm view that discrimination should be curbed in all its forms and manifestations and laws banning gay marriages are nothing but bare discrimination. And the proposition 8 will certainly prove to be a backlash for those who have proposed it. But she aggressively stressed upon the fact that such proposition has infringed the legitimate rights of a strong and united community and they will suffer the consequences of such oppressive attempt.
