‘I cannot think of something more heinous,’ these were the comments of US District Judge Joseph a Greenaway when he heard the case of the Wayne Nelson Corliss who has been convicted with sex abuse.
61-year old Wayne Nelson Corliss has been convicted with abusing young Thai boys sexually and has been sentenced for 20 years in jail by a federal court yesterday. Nelson was arrested by the Interpol in Union City during their worldwide search for him. A part-time actor, Nelson has been making appearances in children shows as Santa Clause. He was accused of sexually abusing children who were aged as young as six. He was accused of the allegations when the Norwegian Police found photos on the internet which had the images of Nelson’s sexual assaults on children. In addition to these photos, police also found records of chat-room conversation about his sex assaults. In these chat-room conversations, Nelson claimed that he abused children from his neighborhood and from his shows where he was playing Santa Claus. Allegedly, Nelson has travelled to Thailand more than three years ago and got access to young boys at the home of a Canadian where he carried out his inhumane acts. Police has already arrested his partner in crime, the house owner and a Canadian by nationality, John Wrenshall and a separate trial is being arranged for him too.
Wayne Nelson Corliss confessed his crime and admitted that he travelled to Thailand during 2000-2002 where he sexually assaulted two Thai boys aged six and nine. He also admitted that he took part in the online distribution of child pornography. During his arrest, the police seized five computers at his home in Union City. But he told the judge during his testimony that some of the tales in his chat-room conversation are mere stories with no truth in them. He said he made up these stories for fun. ‘I am not that monster,’ said Nelson in his defense.
In a case like Nelson’s, the 61-year-old sex offender could be sentenced for jail imprisonment of 27 years but the judge reduced his punishment as Nelson helped the police in their search for other accused men.
