WGAL is a Lancaster-licensed local news channels for South Central Pennsylvania. It is affiliated with NBC. WGAL has a long history of excellent broadcasting services to the local residents. It was founded in March, 1949 and was the fourth television channel of Pennsylvania at the time of its foundation. The channel broadcasted its first colored program in 1954 and the first colored television program was the coverage of Tournament of Roses Parade. Though WGAL has always remained affiliated with NBC, it broadcasted some programs from channels like CBS, ABC, and DuMon until 1963. WGAL was previously owned by Steinman family which owned some other news channels and news papers as well. The Steinman family sold the channel to Pulitzer in 1978 and the new owner brought many changes in the program structure of the channel. Under the ownership of Pulitzer, WGAL became the first channel of the state which broadcasted in stereo. On its 50th anniversary, the channel was sold to Hearst-Argyle Television.
