Locals of Oshkosh, Wisconsin can be forgiven for thinking that there are some close formation flying going on above their head on Monday 27th July, 2009 as WhiteKnightTwo being unveiled to the public for the first time a scaled composites aircraft created for Sir Richard Branson’s virgin Galactic space tourism corporation.
The unveiling ceremony started around 2:30 P.M at Experimental Aircraft Association’s annual Air Venture gathering 2009 a slick and fabulously designed WhiteKnightTwo started taxing on Aero Shell square airfield’s runway with EAA photo plane right behind it, it was an amazing scene to watch. Every Built off has a purpose and so is WhiteKnightTwo, its only purpose is to serve Richard Branson’s commercial space venture.
The aircraft is part of a joint venture between Sir Richard Branson a British billionaire and Burt Rutan a Ansari X prize winning engineer. The whiteknighttwo it’s self is not created for the purpose to launch in space in-fact this aircraft can reach up to 50,000 ft and it has the ability to launch the spaceship into space at 4 times the velocity of sound, spaceshiptwo is also part of this venture. Richard Branson’s commercial space venture Galactic has already booked over 300 people at $200,000 per person. The unveiling of whiteknighttwo is a major milestone towards world’s first private spaceflight.
