Though I always thought that Annie Lenox sung the song originally, it turns out that the British band which goes by the name of Procol Harum was the first to come out with A Whiter Shade of Pale. Anyhow, there is more news to the song than one would imagine as last night saw doctor House sit down to do a cover of the song in the television series House. A single episode of the show is one hour long and before this, it wasn’t in their style to break into song and dance in the middle of an episode but I guess their running out of diseases to cover. Its either that or the fact that the diseases that they are actually managing to do a show on are not interesting enough to dedicate a whole hour to.
A Whiter Shade of Pale was released in the late sixties and was one of the songs that made the band famous though if one thinks about it, it would come across that it was the only song that gave the band any kind of repute. The immediately jumped to the very top of the charts as soon as it was released and it was like the band had struck a gold mine when the song remained number one for more than a month. To be exact, A Whiter Shade of Pale stayed at that position for a total of forty-two days, or six weeks if there is still any confusion left.
Then the famous singer Annie Lennox did a cover of it and it really did a lot of justice to the song and the strangely melancholic lyrics as she had a voice that was sweeter than honey. It will not be the first time that the song has been used in on the screen as in the year 1995 there was a movie called “The Net” in which Sandra Bullocks plays the role of a woman who’s identity gets stolen.
