When it comes to mountains and climbing them most of us assume that the sport is exclusively for men since it involves many dangers and requires physical fitness that most would think is only there in men. To the surprise of many when they ask: who was the first lady to conquer Mt. Everest? The answer is that of a Japanese woman who goes by the name of Junko Tabei. Junko Tabei was born on the twenty-third day of May seventy one years ago in the annum of 1939. Junko has been involved in this sport for the better half of her life and has even been involved in opening a mountain climbing club just for girls in Japan. The club was formed when Junko was thirty years of age and it was called the Ladies Climbing Club.
So when you ask who was the first lady to conquer Mt. Everest, don’t say I didn’t tell you, and that’s not all, Junko has climbed other mountains as well including Matterhorn which is located in the Alps in Switzerland and then of course the tallest mountain in her own homeland which is the place of pilgrimage for many as well: Mount Fuji.
When we think of Junko who was the first lady to conquer Mt. Everest it is important to note that she was the first female ever to complete the challenge of the seven summits which involved climbing the highest peaks in all the seven continents around the world. She completed the challenge just eighteen years ago in the annum 1992 and has made herself quite a reputation amongst mountain climbers around the world.
