My favorite scene from 1974 comedy “Young Frankenstein” is when hermit at his lonely place with rosary in his hands is praying for a companion and suddenly the monster appears at his door. As he asks the name of the stranger he hears only a deep hmmmm. And hermit says in a low voice “oh ! so you are mute !”. In his bid to offer something to eat to his gift from heavens, hermit gives monster a bowl and pours boiling hot soup only spilling it on monster and all he hears a long hmmmm. As he burns monster while trying to light cigar for him, monster utters a long hmmmm and runs out of the house!
Main characters in the film are played by Gene Wilder Peter Boyle, Marty Feldman, Cloris Leachman, and Teri Garr. The film is black & white to mimic the atmosphere of the scary movies. The film has the credit of occupying thirteenth slot among the funniest American films.
There is one word for the plot – Hilarious and certainly one of the funniest movies ever made. Dr. Frederick Frankenstein is from the lineage of Dr. Frankenstein who created the original monster. He chafes being called Frankenstein and has instructed to be called Frankonstein instead. Events lead Frankenstein to refresh the work of his grandfather, much to the dismay of his townsfolk and local inspector.
As was expected the monster created is a giant abnormal person. As he escapes many attempts to be kept under lock and key, the monster goes on to have a brush with Elizabeth who is Frederick’s fiancé. He makes love with Elizabeth and she is delighted to find his abnormal endurance and big penis!
Elizabeth is hooked and goes on to marry the monster.
And monster becomes somewhat normal in his behavior.
